Celebrate the Festival of Lughnasadh

Michael Conneely

Michael ConneelyThe Festival of Lughnasadh

The Festival of Lughnasadh is the festival of Harvest, celebrated around 1st August. Share in the preparation of all the Festivals of the ancient Irish with the Druid Forest School worldwide courses: www.druidforestschool.com/courses

Take stock: What talents have you harvested so far this year???

Honour your harvest. Honour those who support you: your Tribe. Honour the Land that supports you: your home and the sacred earth.

The Festival of Lughnasadh is the celebration of the harvest of our individual and our joint Tribal efforts in the year, so far.

The Festival of Lughnasadh is also overshadowed by the approach of winter. The Tribe has to prepare for winter as it celebrates the Harvest. The powers of Darkness must be defeated. You need your Harvest to weather any hard times in the future.

The main theme of the Festival of Llughnasadh was feast celebrating the successful reaping of benefits from the Land by the Tribe, the communal enjoyment of first fruits was the high point of the day’s ritual.

Lughnasadh combines key cosmic sacred themes of the Land and the Tribe. And for the ancient Irish, it was the transition from the culture of the Land (The Formorians) to the spirit of the Tribe (The Tuatha de Danaan), that underlies the Book of Invasions, and this was the difference between the two sides at the Second Battle of Moytura (Maigh Tuireadh), fought near our Healing Centre in the West of Ireland, in the Irish Iron Age.

At Llughnasadh, we hear the call of the new god, Llugh, that was the catalyst for the members and the gods of the Tuatha de Danaan, to value the manifestation of the special and individual skills of each of them, and thus be able to use individual and very special crafts and skills to defeat the more cloddish, vicious and less civilised lower-consciousness Formorians.

We each incarnate to burn negative karmas, and also to develop and manifest our own special unique special skills. Llugh is the catalyst for this. He thus calls us to bring in the harvest of our talents at Lughnasadh.

And so at Lughnasadh, a key theme of any celebration is recounting the call of Llugh for each member of the Tuatha to name and bring in his own special talents, as at the Second Battle of Moytura that the Tuatha fought against the dark Formorians above Loch Arrow, near here.

The issue is also our personal sovereignty. For the Tuatha de Danaan, their victory at the Second Battle of Moytura was yearly sealed by the annual mating of the War Goddess the Morrigan and the Good God, The Dagda, both standing astride the River Unshin where it flows from the Loch, to wend its way to its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean near Carrowmoor. Thus the sovereignty of the Tribe and its Land was sealed.

The issue is also about reverencing and relying upon the Goddess of the Land, she who provides, she who now rules as Queen of the Harvest.

And the Festival of Lughnasadh also calls us to value skills of communication, creative thought and breakthrough, just as Llugh used eloquent oratory to call each member of the Tuatha de Danaan to value themselves and their individual special skills. And thus the Celts linked Llugh to Mercury, but of course, there is also a lightning, revolutionary, fore-front creative Uranian dimension to him too!

And it is these words that inspire the people, win the Goddess for the Tuatha are the people of the Goddess Danu and the actions the words inspire that defeat the cruel blinding heat of the Sun, that defeat Balor: Balor of the evil Eye.

Spring Equinox Sacred Weapons and Alphabets

Michael Conneely

Michael ConneelySpring Equinox Sacred Weapons and Alphabets with the Druid Forest School

I want to share with you the power of the Spring Equinox Festival, and how its celebration can grow in power and richness with use of sacred weapons, ancient magical sacred alphabets and alignment to the growing brightness of the Sun.

Following Spring Equinox ritual, you can set an intention of day by day checking out: ‘am I aligning with the day by day growing power of the Sun between now and the Summer Solstice?’

To connect with the Sun is a good and healing and sacred and empowering thing to do. I look out at the Sun rising above the mountain every morning and connect with the beauties of the earth sky and sea around here.
And the point is, the ancient Irish were sharing in the growing power of the Sun from the Spring Equinox five thousand years ago too.

We celebrated Spring Equinox not only with ritual and visionary journeying, but also with a Group visiting the three great related temple/burial mounds of the ancient Irish:
Knowth which is aligned to both Equinoxes
New Grange which is aligned to the birth of the new Sun at the Winter Solstice Sunrise
Dowth Winter which is aligned to the birth of the new Sun at Solstice Sunset.

You, yourself, can now align to the ever-growing light and power of the Sun. That is the key theme of Spring Equinox.

You can establish a benchmark intention of your expression of your self expanding and getting more comfortable and central as the Sun himself grows day by every day up to Summer Solstice.

You can check out if you are keeping to your intention. You can check out if you are keeping on course.

And see the wonderful worldwide courses with the Druid Forest School at: www.druidforestschool.com

Our Healing Centre and linked Airbnb in the West of Ireland is at: www.foxfordairbnb.com

I look forward to working with you

Spring Equinox and Earth Spirituality Courses

Michael Conneely

Michael ConneelyIn this Spring Equinox newsletter, I want to share with you the power of the Spring Equinox Festival. You can set an intention of day by day checking out: ‘am I aligning with the day by day growing power of the Sun between now and the Summer Solstice?’ It’s a good and healing and empowering thing to do. I look out at the Sun rising above the mountain every morning and connect with the beauties of the earth sky and sea around here. And the point is, the ancient Irish were sharing in the growing power of the Sun from the Spring Equinox five thousand years ago too. And in my newsletters and blogs, I seek to offer the astrology insight that will help us negotiate the sometimes easy sometimes tortuous or held back energies over that time scale, and also, I teach contact with the ancient Irish festivals and their wonderful empowering Gods.

To start off our personal and Druid Forest School journey to rise with the growing power of the Sun from Spring Equinox onwards.

Then, Maggie and I celebrated Spring Equinox with a Group visiting the three great related temple/burial mounds of the ancient Irish:

Knowth which is aligned to both Equinoxes
New Grange which is aligned to the birth of the new Sun at the Winter Solstice Sunrise
Dowth which is aligned to the birth of the new Sun at Solstice Sunset.

You can clearly see from the photo of the doorway alignment in the ancient Irish monument, how they worshipped Equinox morning ray of sunlight. You can see how the monument doorway aligns to the Sun of Equinox, how the Sun of that moment shines through the doorway and how the Sun rises to pierce and banish the darkness of winter. The Phallic stone was aligned to cast its shadow into the Western passage during Equinox

This principle of alignment to the energy of the Sun was very important to the lives and consciousness these ancient Irish people, and it was a matter for worship and celebration, a moment and an energy deep within the sacred consciousness of the ancient Irish Druids – and much more ancient inhabitants of this land too.

See the brief video clip from part of the Druid Forest School Spring Equinox ritual I offered:

At Knowth, we had the most wonderful guide called Marion who really made the connection to the ancient Irish spiritual beliefs live and shine.

At Dowth, the group tuned into the earth energies and felt that the energies the ancient worshippers at Dowth had placed in the mound for the benefit of all people were energies of encouragement, optimism and strength:

Spring Equinox was 20th March at 10.20 am here in Ireland. Spring Equinox is the moment when the length of the growing days exactly equals the length of the shortening nights. On the day of Spring Equinox, the Sun enters the ‘action-man’ western sign of Aries in the tropical Zodiac and from this moment on, the days get longer, the Sun gets higher in the heavens and he gets more and more powerful. The Sun grows in power, day after day, until the Summer Solstice on 21st June 2017 at 04.15 am. To find out the time in your particular country, please visit TimeandDate.com.

The chart for this Spring Equinox 2017 is dominated by the expansionary and explosive ‘Jupiter opposition Uranus’, and note that this opposition is T-square Pluto. And I will seek to benefit from this expansionary energy for my own good and to share my teaching with others.

And also, I’m drawn each and every day to restart my writing of my novel, which I had to interrupt due to our emigration to Ireland last August. It’s called ‘Sacred Union: The Morrigan and the Dagda’. My novels are listed on www.inspirationalnovels.org

The Festivals of the Ancient Irish with Druid Forest School in Ireland and Worldwide

Michael Conneely

Festivals of the Ancient Irish

These Festivals are immensely powerful gateways into the natural rhythms of Earth, Sea and Sky and also connection to our ideal self.

We are celebrating the Spring Equinox in Foxford, County Mayo, in the far west of Ireland this Saturday March 24th and you will be welcome. Contact Michael Conneely or Maggie Pashley through our Druid Forest School or Foxford airbnb websites.

You can also prepare for, celebrate and build on all the Festivals through my Druid Forest school Worldwide course: www.druidforestschool.com

If we celebrate these ancient festivals authentically and creatively in the way that is right for us each as an individual, these festivals contribute to our lives with power and healing – and fulfillment of who we were born to be!

Our ancestors felt great significance in the turning of the seasons, their link to the fertility of the land. They put stupendous effort into constructing monuments with exact astronomical alignments.

They felt it was of crucial importance to be one with the great cycles of energy of the stars, the Sun and the Moon.

And of course, here, around us in the West of Ireland, there were also important local alignments as well such as The Bohea Stone and Croagh Patrick Mountain.

Make your own personal, true, beautiful and honest – and authentic understanding of the festivals.
Study these Festivals of the Ancient Irish with Michael Conneely and The Druid Forest School.

Enable their true flame to grow in your heart and mind so you can express and speak your true and beautiful vision, your Heart Song and your truth.
Share connection to the great cycles of the Earth and the Heavens.
Do ritual, vision work and make deep connection to the Goddesses and the Gods of the ancient Irish.
I will be honoured to share this in-depth journey of healing and empowerment with you.
Together we work through the ritual year.

We make a journey of connection to Earth, the Sea and the Sky, and to the sacred weapons of the tuatha de Danaan and to the Goddess and Gods of the ancient Irish
And, as with all my courses, I share with you your personal western and Vedic Astrology: natal and predictive. This offers us much food for thought and guidance. A very special bonus.

Deepen your connection with the spiritual heritage of the ancient Irish.
Connect to their festivals.
Create community around this task.
Each of us flowers as a human being, with his or her own special divine spark, in the celebration of this practice.

As a separate possibility, we offer sacred tours to the many sacred sites all with an hour of our Healing Centre with linked airbnb. These places of deep and great sacred Earth Energies include: Carrowmoor, Carrowkeel, Rathcroghan, the site of the Second Battle of Moytura and Croagh Patrick mountain: see: www.foxfordairbnb.com

There are also courses to make visionary contact with the great Gods and Goddesses of the Tuatha de Danaan. See www.druidforestschool.com.

Moytura Battle Ireland’s Iliad

Michael Conneely

Please bear with the occasional wind noise during the group’s working in late January at the battlefield of the Second Battle of Moytura.

The earth energies and the vision of the ancient Irish Gods makes the whole event so powerful, beautiful and special.

Such a lot was channelled. Members felt they had such a lot to share.

The group was left with such a sense of the truth that The Book of Invasions is Ireland’s equal to the Greek’s Iliad.

It is Ireland’s equal to the Indian Vedas.

It is the Equal of The Matter of Britain that brought to us the great King Arthur, and the druid magician who made his greatness possible: Merlin.

Like these three others, it brings down to us through time, a Golden Age, when Gods walked the earth through their Avatars and emanations.

The Book of Invasion was written by medieval monks, but it preserved epic history that came down from the iron Age of a time when Gods walked the earth.

The medieval monks could not really encompass the greatness of the Beings, nor the divine power of the materials they were writing about, but they could not diabolise the Tuatha de Danaan too much for fear of upsetting the Irish nobles who, let’s face it, were paying the monastic scriptoria for the great tale, and demanded enough truth to the Epic which hitherto had come down through oral transmission of Druids and Bards.

And so, we have to see past the monks horrible caricaturising of the great Good God, the Dagda.

Just as we have to see past all the modern caricaturising of the great ethical War Goddess of the ancient Irish that goes on: The great Morrigan.

You can work on making genuine authentic personal vision connection to these great Gods and Goddesses of the ancient Irish through the courses of my Druid Forest School:  www.druidforestschool.com/courses

Find your own true and life-giving connection with the true nature of The Morrigan, the Ethical Defender of our Sovereignty, and also of The Dagda, the giving, sexual, warrior, regenerative Good God.

And it is their relationship that perpetuated the sacred people of the Tuatha de Danaan. It was their mating at Samhain, and every Samhain, that assured the Tuatha de Danaan victory. It is this relationship of sacred Feminine and Sacred Masculine that is the true nature of these two great beings, and their true gift to modern people.

Now is the time to see and benefit from their dignity, their beauty and their gift to us.

They are the God and Goddess of the Sacred Land, and they renew it and give it power at their annual mating astride the River Unshin which flows from Loch Arrow to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean next to Carrowmore (which itslef includes a huge Samhain alignment of the central tomb: Listogil).

Meeting and developing visionary connection with the Gods and goddess of the Tuatha de Danaan is more and more possible.

They, themselves,  retreated to the mounds and barrows after the coming of the Milesians, perceiving that humanity could only caricaturise and devalue them.

But now following W B Yeats and Lady Gregory and the Celtic revival, the time is right for their message and their beauty and specialness to be heard and seen again.

We also meet Manannan, the eerie God of the sea and its tides and mists, Ogma, the warrior who invented writing, Llugh: Lord of the Harvest of our talents.

Once again Corra will be restored to her sacred mountain from where she was thrown in 432 to be consigned to the Loch below the mountain.

The Four treasures of the Tuatha de Danaan fully radiate their power and beauty again. once more we walk the Ogham pathways and sense the Celtic Otherworlds.

We meet once more Boann, Oengus Og.  Many are meeting and learning to understand the Irish hero Fionn mac Cumhall, leader of the warrior band: the Fianna.

We can feel the sacred energies placed in the ground and the rocks at Carrowmore, Carrowkeel, Ben Bulben, the dragon energies in the mountain now called Croagh Patrick, and so many more sacred places of Ireland.

There’s the purity and force of Brigid’s Imbolc fire. And we grow in understanding Danu, the Mother of them all. There’s the Healers: Dian Cecht, Miach and Airmed. We seek to meet and learn: who was great Ernmas? And what is the nature of the triple Goddess?

See the main video about the battlefield:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-coaAJOnqk

Lough Arrow and the battlefield is only 35 miles from the Healing Centre and airbnb that Maggie Pashley and I run in Foxford in beautiful County Mayo in the stupendously beautiful far West of Ireland, where we offer holidays, holidays with healings, retreats and Sacred Ireland Tours.

Prepare for Spring Equinox Festival

Michael Conneely

Prepare for Spring Equinox Festival

This is one of the eight great Festivals of the year. Here is a list with typical dates:

There are the four Celtic Fire Festivals of:
Samhain              Nov 1st (October 31st)
Imbolc                  Feb 1st / 2nd
Beltain                 May 1st
Lughnasadh        Aug 1st

And there are the four Cross-Quarter solar Festivals of:
Winter Solstice                 Dec 21st
Spring Equinox                 Mar 21st
Summer Solstice              Jun 21st
Autumn Equinox              Sep 21st

The Spring Equinox, or Vernal Equinox, known in the Welsh Druid Tradition as Alban Eilir, occurs when the Sun enters the tropical zodiac sign of Aries on or around March 21st.  It marks the time where the day’s length for the first time equals the length of the night. And from this time on, the days will get longer than the nights, until the day of the Summer Solstice, the longest day, around June 21st.

The key energy of the Spring Equinox is therefore the power and standing of the Sun, and the defeat, banishing and diminishment of Winter and darkness.

And in celebrating the growing power of the Sun, we celebrate the growing solar power in ourself, the ending of the more inward time of winter in our lives, and the appearance of new life on the earth: green leaves bursting everywhere, lambs and flowers, ploughing and planting in full swing. And in human culture: contests and games.

But in celebrating this we also honour the principle of divine cycles, and of the underlying important of Balance.

In terms of the ancient Irish, little has survived of the celebration of the Spring Equinox Festival because it got overlayed by the Catholic Easter, sand three Celtic Saints’ Days: Saint Patrick, Saint David and Saint Piran.

But as a pointer to the ancient recognition of this point in the yearly Sun-cycle,  many Irish ancient monuments of the Neolithic and Bronze Ages are aligned to  the Solstices, and one at least to the Spring Equinox: Lough Crew Cairns, near Oldcastle, County Meath, which are two hours east from Foxford or an hour west from Dublin. Lough Crew was built about 3,200 BC, has alignment to the solstices as well, but on either equinox, the Sun rises in the same place and illumines down a passage on to the carvings on the passage back stone

So the Spring Equinox celebration needs to include the following factors. Start to plan from say the end of February which you will do and when. Plan how and when you will take these steps. Some might be appropriate to work with as the Festival approaches. All will be pulled together on the day of your Festival Celebration Ritual. Keep a record. Go through your planning with me. Share with me afterwards how the celebration ritual went: what it achieved, what steps need to be taken to implement and consolidate the ‘new You’ start to choose and develop your focuses for the celebration, to support your healing, transformation and empowerment:

The Sun: Celebration of the Sun, his nature and the fact of his rise in powered and brightness, inspiration and life-giving. We can visualise and share in his rise from the new-born Sun of the Winter Solstice, to the child of Promise, to, now: the young King:  Arthur or Fionn: The Mabon in Welsh druid path.

The Earth: Make contact with and celebrate the consequences for the earth and life on earth of the new power of the Sun. we visualise the growing abundant giving of the Earth under the light of the Sun, from the barrenness of Winter, to the first snowdrops of Imbolc to now the first flowers, buds and catkins; The lambs, the calves; the new births. The life-giving Goddess. Sovereignty.

Plan your ritual place:
Choose the place: in nature preferably.
Sense the energies of the place you choose: The Irish Celts saw a soul in everything, Interlapping Otherwords. Spirts of place. Great Energies placed in the Earth by the Earth Shapers.
How will you deck the altar or the site? What physical arrangement will need to be put in place?
Develop in a shared way a little timetable of parts you might want to include n the ritual. But no scripted speeches, and allow for authenticity of personal expression and breakthrough. Allow for the unexpected. If your celebration is in a group, some members might want to take responsibility for preparation for a certain facet of the celebration.

Festival Preparations:
Plan the preparations and the parts of the ritual itself: visualising, energy work, food and drink. Start to prepare from end of February onwards. As always, before and during the ritual, it is good, healing and empowering to greet the risen Sun, to shire the fact that you too will rise, and to honour the four quarters and what each gives to your body and your life, and to honour Land, Sea and Sky.

Focuses for your Preparation and for the Festival Celebration:

Your Body: Vision and Energy work: Check out your own body energies and decide if changes are needed:
Lie down and visualise yourself under the rise of the strengthening Sun. scan your body energies. Note impressions you receive of illness, disease, weakness and strength. Do you need healing? Do you need changes in lifestyle in the light of what you see?
Soak up the rays and warmth of the Sun using your visionary eye. Allow the needed movement of the Sun energies through your body. Direct your body energies to this end.

Your Life: Create a space to take stock on your life: to meditate or vision-journey on the personal questions related to this rise in the Sun, namely:
Where have I been putting my energies, and do I need to re-focus because of the rise of the light and the longer days and warmer weather?
Do I need to move from a more inward to a more outward period of my life?
Do I need to increase my power and the expression of my vitality and talents?
Do new directions, values and attitude need to arise now in my life. Do I need to create new planning and strategy?
And are there things I should let die?
Do vision journey with this intention. See what arises to your mind.

Your Solar Self: See how you were before the ritual, and how you are after it. Visualise your intention of who you will become. Make a transition to health and healing. Leave sense of woundedness behind as the Sun rises to his glory. Afterwards it can be a good idea to draw before and after and share the drawings with loved ones, Group members, etc.

Fight between light and darkness: your celebration could include recognition of the fight between light and darkness, maybe even the fight between the Winter King and the Summer King. Maybe a game or contest between human contestants representing the two sides, with Light destined to win: this time! Light crosses the goal-line this day! With the light now arising triumphant, and all the new life now emerging on the earth: food, flowers, and the altar can be decked accordingly.

So these are the factors. On my course, you can make your plans with me before the Festival ritual, you can share the results, and I cross-refer to your western and Vedic Astrology: the destinies and psychological drives in your natal astrology, and the energies of the current time in your predictive astrology.

Preparing for your Shamanic Journey – Become a Shamanic Healer

Michael Conneely

Basically, as a Shamanic Healer you develop the power to contact the non-ordinary worlds.

You journey by trance, maybe blindfold.
You useTrance Drumming  –  or rattle or chant or whistle or use CD
You use a quite place, smudged or purified.
As a Shaman, you access different worlds, very flexibly defined as:
Upper world: seeking teachers/guides.
Middle world: portals, sacred energies places, woods, spirits of place.
Lower  Animal helpers, spirit guides.
Entering these three realms, might involve walking towards the World Tree, and choosing whether to go up to the upper realm or down through the roots to the Lower World.

State your intention as you embark on your journey – but don’t be bound by expectation or purpose

You may meet animals, spirits, guides, gods, guardians: You may Speak to, Get help from, Get healing from those you meet.

In your Journey: you can seek   vision, Healing, Removal of intrusion, Soul retrieval (maybe involving Inner Child Work or Family Constellation Work, Curse removal, Fort Holder work, Power animal retrieval, Shape shifting (see quote 1 below), Cleansing, Use of talisman, Contact earth energies – channel from them, Heal an animal, Chakra Healing.

Arrangement for return is important.

Quote 1: The Song of Amergin:

I am Wind on Sea,
I am Ocean-wave,
I am Roar of Sea,
I am Stag of Seven Tines,
I am a Hawk on a Cliff,
I am shining tear of the Sun,
I am Fairest among Herbs,
I am Boar for Boldness,
I am Salmon in Pool,
I am a Lake on a Plain,
I am a Hill of Poetry,
I am a Word of Skill,
I am the Point of a Weapon (that pours forth
combat),
I am God who fashions Fire for a Head.
Who knows the secrets of the
Unhewn Dolmen?
Who (but I) announces the Ages of the Moon?
Who (but I) know the place where falleth
the Sunset?
Who calls the Cattle from the House of Tethra?
On whom do the cattle of Tethra smile?
Who is the troop, the god who fashions edges
in a fortress of gangrene?
(I am) a Song on a Spear,
an Enchantments of Wind.

Shamanic Healer

Quote 2: The Song of Wandering Aengus by WB Yeats:I went out to the hazel wood,

Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire a-flame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And someone called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Healing Example 1 : Animal:

15-years old dog got very weak, barely walking around the house, he had blood running from his nose and ear. The vet said that he might have cancer. Made offering of a handful of grain to the spirits asking them to help him heal dog. Drummed above head of dog. With The singing and drumming I was sending thoughts and healing energy. Called upon my power animal, stag, and i “entered” into the dog’s head. After half an hour, I started singing without the drum and with my hands I was “pulling out” the dog’s illness through nose. I “threw it out” in a river and thanked the spirits for helping me. After 2 day’s strong bleeding through nose started and piece of flesh came out of the nose 10 cm long.

Healing Example 2 : Chakra healing:

I scanned the body and felt tense energy and painful emotions above the Heart centre. When I meditated more on the Heart Chakra, I saw a huge encasing concrete round cylinder (about 1 metre in diameter and 1 m high) on the chest. I invited a spirit animal to help me remove the heavy cylinder. I saw him threw it in a volcano and earthquake destroyed it. I saw healing light, sunlight and green flowers planted in the Heart chakra. I felt this horrible encasing concrete thing was a negative programme or energy that blocked the energies from flowing freely, especially from the 2nd to the 4th chakra. Now the client became “open” to the world. She could give and receive, send love. I swept the negative energy from the aura and filled with divine light.

Healing Example 3: Talisman:
Took all the hostile belittle scripts that my family are sending me all my life. Put them into a talisman: a triangle of three twigs that I made and bound together. Buried the triangle in the earth at the foot of the statue of a great hero.

The Battle of Moytura and Return of the Ancient Irish Gods

Michael Conneely

At the Iron Age Irish Second Battle of Moytura, the Tuatha de Danaan, the People of Skill, the people of the Goddess Danu, overthrew the Forces of Darkness: the brutish Formorians. A group with the Druid Forest School Courses to meet the Gods and Goddesses of the Ancient Irish set out to find the site of the great battle. Enroll on the Course.

This January, the group of us climbed to the exalted mountain top where the second Moytura battle was fought, high above Loch Arrow.

The earth energies are stupendous. The rocks austere and black. You look across the loch to the late stone age tombs of Carrowkeel. You look the other way to the sacred earth energies of Carrowmoor, Knocknarea, Ben Bulben and the Atlantic Ocean. See: www.foxfordairbnb.com

Such powerful and healing earth energies are in the rocks of the sacred places round here.

The site of the Battle is only 35 miles from the Healing Centre and airbnb that Maggie Pashley and I run in Foxford in beautiful County Mayo in the stupendously beautiful far West of Ireland, where we offer holidays, holidays with healings, retreats and Sacred Ireland Tours.
See this video:

The Book of Invasions was written down in the Middle Ages and records the oral Druid Teaching that had been passed on from the Iron Age. The Book records how the Tuatha de Danaan were pushed out of Ireland where they had their home in the Iron Age.  Although a people of commanding gifts, talents and skills, the Tuatha de Danaan were oppressed by the piratical, dark and earthy Formorians who lived on this land and its seas from even more ancient times. And so, the Tuatha could stand the oppression no longer and they departed and they spent years sailing the seas learning great skills and magical arts.

The Book of Invasions records how they then decided to return and reclaim their homeland.

Modern DNA studies of Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age burials round here reveal from how far ancient peoples came from to make their home in Ireland – even from as far as Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and the southern Russian steppes. Peoples travelled great distances before modern times, and the Tuatha were no exception.
When they first returned, they fought a people called the Fir Bolg for their living space on the land of Ireland. This was the First Battle of Moytura near Cong, and the Tuatha won. However, unfortunately they found themselves more and more subject to the Formorians after their return. They were an exalted people. As with the Greeks’ Iliad and the Vedas of the Arian Indians, this was a time when ‘Gods walked the earth’. As in the Iliad, heroes had energies of divine descent. As in Tibetan Buddhism, humans were emanations of divine beings. As in the Vedas, the great God Vishnu sends Avatar after Avatar to save the Earth.

And yet the Formorians cared nothing for the divine skills, gifts and arts of the godly Tuatha de Danaan. And so, it came to pass that even the Tuatha’s great god: the magnificent generous Dagda with his cauldron of plenty, was reduced to doing manual work. The Formorians cared nothing for The Dagda’s cauldron of plenty and rebirth, nor for his harp the playing of which turns the seasons in their proper time, nor for his club one end of which dealt death, and the other end of which created life. All the Tuatha’s skills and magic and art were pearls before swine, when it came to the Formorians.

Eventually, the Tuatha de Danaan were roused to rebel and to stand up for themselves against the oppression of the Formorians.

An emanation, or incarnation, or Avatar of a new God appeared among them: Llugh. Llugh is Lord of Harvest. He is Lord of the Harvest of our Talents. He raised war against the Formorians. He asked each of the people what was his or her special talent that they would bring to the battle against darkness and ignorance, the gross Formorians. Each answered Llugh in turn, and so the battle was joined, on this high mountain plateau.

And before it was joined the great Morrigan gave assurance of victory. Standing each foot astride the river Unshin that flows from Loch Arrow to the Atlantic Ocean beside Carrowmore, she mated with the Dagda, the Good God, as she does every Samhain, and so the people were assured victory by the union of Sacred feminine and Sacred Masculine.
The Battle took place. Llugh slew the evil Balor the leader of the Formorians, and the Tuatha had their place on the face of the Earth.

However, their reign was not to last long. A race called The Milesians arrived from Spain. The Tuatha decided that their special gifts were not to be appreciated by humans. And so, the Tuath went inside the fairy mounds and barrows, there to wait.

And with W B Yeats and Lady Gregory, the Celtic Revival began, and now more and more people are able to see the special art and greatness, the magic and the special spark of the great Tuatha Danaan Gods, Goddess and people – and so this group came to vision quest the earth energies in this high place, to meet the Gods and Goddesses of the Tuatha de Danaan in vision, to sing their heart song self.

Our Mind, the Nine Elements and The Well of Wisdom

Our Mind, the Nine Elements and The Well of Wisdom

Druid Forest School - Circle

I’d like to share the valuable and perceptive work of a druid student of mine who was working with the nine elements of the ancient Irish Druid, and I’ll paraphrase her report on her valuable vision work: She was working with the mind, and the sense of cosmic man, how we are a microcosm, how we connect to everything: whatever you do to part of the web you do to all of the web. And this is what came through vision-journeying about the well or mind for the 6th element of the duile: the mind; The well: ‘there was a strong feeling of going into a well or the mind. I started to experience some interesting events. One of them was me walking along a path and there were signs along it. Each sign had a word, and I had felt that the words linked to phrases. Each phrase was connected to a subject, so I had felt like the well is about the well of knowledge. The mind can expand as well as recall memories about one’s life.
I feel that the journey was about searching within my mind for answers. I feel that the well is about a need to connect to understanding oneself on many levels. The web of life, is a phrase that had come to mind as I did my journey. There was also a sense of the feeling of expansion not only spiritually but also mentally. Learning and evolving as a person is what I am doing, for me, it’s a path that I am on. I feel that I am always learning. I then returned back to my center.’She likened the mind of each one of us to the Well of wisdom. Yes, we all have our own Well of Wisdom, and it connects to the great Well of Wisdom,
This journey gets to the heart of this course, clearly experiencing how we are made up of elements and that we are each the cosmic man connected to the Universe.
Of course this is the way intuitive people tap into knowledge they couldn’t possibly have otherwise, like in Tarot and Divination and Kinesiology which my partner Maggie uses so successfully in her worldwide healings.

In the ancient spiritual path of the Irish Druids, which draws on even more ancient Stone Age spiritual knowledge and sense of sacredness of place, there’s the Well of Segais (also called Connla’s Well and the Well of Nechtan). It has nine sacred hazels of wisdom surrounding it, blooming and fruiting in the same hour. Knowledge and poetic inspiration is received by eating the hazelnuts that fall into the well, through drinking the well water when the hazelnuts fall in, or through eating the salmon. The well was accordingly the great destination of poets and philosophers.
But the most ancient myth has it that the goddess Boann, Goddess of the river Boyne by which New Grange anciently stands, approached the well in the wrong way because she did not understand the truth of what she was seeking and handling – like so many spiritual teachers. The legend expresses this with the image that she circled it three times anti-clockwise rather than sunwise, causing the waters to rise up and rush to the sea, becoming the River Boyne. Because her consciousness and actions challenged the power of the truth of the well, this caused the waters to surge up violently and rush down to the sea, creating the Boyne. In this catastrophe, she was swept along in the rushing waters, and she lost an arm, leg and eye, and ultimately her life, in the flood.

Who were The Tuatha Dé Danann?

Before the Tuatha Dé Danann came to Ireland to seek to reclaim their homeland, they travelled the seas for many years and learned from great spiritual teachers all along the Atlantic seaboard and maybe the Mediterranean too. The histories recall that they outstripped their teachers, and one of their great magical and spiritual achievements was vast understanding and healing and empowerment use of the four spiritual weapons:

The Sword of Nuada: When you work with the Sword of Nuada, you are introduced to the different power of different types of sword, and you do rituals and meditations to develop self-understanding and make any needed healing, growth and empowerment.

The Spear of Llugh: When you work with the Spear of Llugh, you meditate and achieve focus on your aims in life and define the harvest you seek. Llugh is Lord of Harvest.

The Stone of Fal: When you work with the Stone of Fal, you develop your sense of your own sovereignty and all that entails in your relationships and life work, and you make physical realisation of your divine right to creative fulfillment and power.

The Cauldron of The Dagda: When you work with the Cauldron of The Dagda, you develop relationship with the generosity and power of the Good God, and All Father, and you learn about and heal yourself as you work with his generous Cauldron of Plenty. You develop your own sense of abundance.
