Venus in Your Astrology Birth Chart

Michael Conneely

Michael ConneelyVENUS: MORNING STAR – EVENING STAR:

The astrology of Venus is very ancient.
Venus in Your Astrology

When Venus appears as the Morning Star, the brilliant spark of light is running ahead of the sun.
Then for a time, when Venus is in conjunction with the Sun, Venus is invisible.

Then Venus occupies a later degree than the sun and is the Evening Star.

The energy of brilliant Venus has most anciently been seen as the scintillating brilliance of love.

And so, when the Morning Star ahead of the Sun Venus is the untamed, primal sexual force of love, impulsive and naïve, a representation of Venus in Your Astrology

Then a descent into the underworld occurred and Venus was invisible: this is the descent of the Babylonian Goddess Ishtar into the Underworld.

And then, after the descent into the underworld, and the painful period of growth, the mature Goddess of love reigns in the skies again, this time as Queen of Heaven, ideally transformed as more compassionate and wise – if not left bereft!

VEDIC ASTROLOGY VENUS – AND SUCCESSFUL CHOICE IN LIFE:

Venus in your astrology chart reveals your capacity to make happy fulfilling successful choices. A well-placed Venus naturally chooses to do the things that will lead to success and accomplishment. A weak Venus will create a personality doomed to make choices that will not lead to enjoyment or worldly happiness.

See Parts 1 and 2 of the Venus in your Astrology Birth Chart Video:

If you have a strong Venus, you will be happily devoted and loyal to people and make decisions that will lead to a life path of fulfillment. But an afflicted Venus person will devote their time and resources to people, circumstances and ideologies that will always leave them wanting; their vision will fail to materialize.

Pride in your Venus gives you the knowledge that you have made the best possible choices, maintained your relationships in the best possible way, chosen the path that lead to your highest fulfillment, reversed the problems of your childhood, achieved the best possible outcomes.

VENUS ATTRIBUTES:

Venus generally signifies what you value. It particularly signifies sexual matters. Can also signify money, also love and art, also draws out the emotional & sympathetic nature. Venus is refinement. Also, can mean love of home. Venus invariably brings a desire to take things reasonably easily, to have peace and quiet. Venus can take the line of least resistance to its context or surroundings. Companionship. Affection are important – and influential in decision-making. Venus’ position by sign and house can also give information about the woman in one’s life, e.g. mother or wife (as can the Moon).

In Vedic Astrology, Venus is sexuality, sexual power, sexual magnetism, the reproductive system, love affairs, passion, eroticism, sensual enjoyment, desire and love, the important ability to make decisions that lead to sexual and loving fulfillment, the ovaries – and our capacity to love. He rules the spouse and marriage – and if afflicted by malefics can cause sexual disorders or diseases. charisma, inspiration and enthusiasm, our appreciation of beauty. As Sukra, his name means ‘brilliant light, he is semen, art, beauty, taste, refinement, love and marriage, poetry and sense of harmony. He is the beauty of colour and the fire of gems.

Venus in our Birth Chart also represents our ability to recuperate, our DNA, the muscles, genetics, jewelry, art, entertainment, massage, romance, gentleness, the wife, women, vehicles and diplomacy.

Venus in our Vedic birth chart represents ‘small fortunes’, harmony, balance, compromise, sociability and comforts, creativity, art, artists, entertainment, glamour, Venus is beautiful, magnetic and attractive. Venus is the guide of demons and spiritual teacher. In Vedic Astrology, he is male, but his energy is feminine.

Sukra enhances the House he is placed within. He is the spark of our aspiration for the good and Venus’ beauty can be a gateway to the divine realms; Ananda is the divine bliss of creation.

On a lower plane, Venus is seeking luxury and comfort and materiality. Beauty and sex is used by advertising to cheapen it.

Mythological and psychological archetypes of Venus are: the Muse, the whore (for sale), the courtesan (style and skill) and the sacred harlot (initiator, inspiration).

Afflicted Venus can be vain, superficial and affected, wanting the joy of possession and the adulation of others; Venus can be effeminate in men, showy and can be vain, competitive, seductive and even vampiric. Negative Venus is taken in by appearances and at the level of glamours and consumption. Whole cultures can give themselves over to negative violence and be based on greed, image and materialism. Self-indulgence destroys the person. Seductiveness drains away direction and is fickle and hard to get and impossible to keep. This negative Venus craves excess or seeks only to be desired. Negatively, Venus can be callous, vain, self-indulgent, amoral. Can be cunning and treacherous. Venus sees a relationship as a kind of mirror; ‘unashamed’. Venus falls foul of collective values (but denial of Venus can bring worse problems!). Venus is concerned with self-definition through relationships rather than relating.

The higher form of Venus is seen in Vedic astrology as the Guru, like Jupiter. This is because Venus is astral light which opens up realms of art, psychic possibilities and creative direction. This Venus is divine and devotional. And so, this Venus transforms by charm, harmony and beauty – transmutation into spiritual power and strength of will.

Here’s some facts and details on the Vedic astrology of Venus:

Venus rules the signs Taurus and Libra.
Taurus can be very material and stuck

Libra can be so keen to have balance that they lose their connection to instinct and become inauthentic and false.

Venus is Exalted in Pisces
Venus is most Exalted at 27 Pisces and most deeply Fallen at 27 Virgo.

Venus is critical perfectionism, and fussy unbearableness in love.

Venus is Mulatrikona 0 – 15 Libra.

Sukra is the Karaka (indicator) of the 7th House.
For a man: Venus signifies the man’s wife and love-life.
Venus in the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th (Kendra) Houses is very forgiving.

Venus’ friends are Mercury and Saturn.
Venus’ enemies are Sun and Moon.

Mars and Jupiter are neutral to Venus.
Venus and the other Planets:

Vedic astrology has a system of stating how Venus and the other planets will treat each other.

Saturn – Venus: For example, when Venus and Saturn are conjunct, this may mean in a man’s chart that women will be hard on him, and that Venus will feed Saturn, but that Saturn will starve Venus. Lack of self-worth will doom the chance for love.
Saturn-Venus, positively is sense of duty, faithfulness, self-control, earnestness and sincerity, a somewhat controlled or derivative form of artisticness. But negatively is lack of self-respect and inward shame, discontent, estrangement, conflicts arising from jealousy, separation, sacrifice, poverty and disappointment in matters of love. Saturn opposition Venus can be the ‘marry for money’ syndrome. She will have deep feelings of unattractiveness and inferiority.

Can be love unions with an appreciable difference in age, or you will experience anguish or delay in finding love.

Venus in aspect to Uranus can be addicted to affairs and the new, and not understand the benefits of commitment. Venus – Uranus brings excitable expression of love: impulsive and erratic. Variegated expression of love. Artistic talents, a self-willed love nature. Peculiar inclinations. Very independent in love. Detached in love

Venus conjunct Pluto can have a penchant for falling deeply passionately intensely in love.

Venus Mars combinations are fiery, and unstable, with passion leading to excess, violence or even crime in worst case scenario. In reality, Venus prefers more gentle environments. There’s the myth about how Aphrodite was married to Vulcan but he bored her, so she had her hopeless affair with Aries. Usually Mars is too aggressive for harmony-loving Venus.

Venus Neptune is the impossible ideal of love, or the delusion. Compassion. Mysticism. Romance. Seduction. Erotic imagination. Illusion. Other-worldly values.  sensitiveness in love. Easily influenced. Great receptivity to beauty, art and music. Dreamy nature. High ideals, mistaken sense of love. Seducible character. The mystic. Romantic reverie. Unearthly sense of reality. Artistic interests. Fae love and music. The Pied Piper.

Moon is your needs; Venus is your wants: are the two synched and in harmony? What was the effect of your mothering in the relationship between these two? Your relationship may be co-dependent or even parasitic. Or desperate and needy. The person with a waning moon in their birth chart can be particularly unfulfilled, demanding or parasitic.

The Sun ego can burn Venus to a cinder. Authority figures can belittle your needs. You can lack the courage to stand up for your love and pleasure and beauty. Everything is done for the sake of appearance rather than intrinsic value. Or Venus can starve the Sun through relying too much on advice or the opinion of others to the detriment of the Solar expression. This can be the boss who takes far too much advice and never decides, the person who sacrifices all for the opinion of others, and trying to please and even wants to be the glove that fits the hand of all others.

Mercury – Venus people include authors, artists, salesmen of beauty requisites or objects d’art, researchers and good decision-makers. Speech is more diplomatic, gracious, respectful, charming and soothing. One makes good friendships that lead to greater fulfillment, rather than attract lame ducks and millstones round the neck. Life can be more fun.

Venus—Jupiter is nearly always sentimental and sometimes even gushy and false, the type is invariably big-hearted, with feelings that tend to go overboard and generally ooze everywhere. Negative Venus – Jupiter is Sickeningly sweet to others, smarmy, pompous and boring,

Spoiled, involved in meaningless social aggrandizement, conceited, lazy, maudlin and flowery, sentimental,

Hypocritical, takes others for granted, likes to be the centre of attraction, and can overindulge in sex or eating.
Depending on the houses Jupiter and especially Venus occupy, the combination may mislead the person into relying on mainly one area of life for fulfillment: so, in the 5th house can give too much focus on children.

Ketu (South node)-Venus brings a script of rejection in past life relationship into the current life, that can lead to the person who endless gets in there first to reject, rather than run the risk of being the rejected one (again) and this script needs to be healed. Ketu-Venus can indicate pornography, guilt, shame and waste.

Rahu (North Node)-Venus can attract you to the foreign, and be possessive and suspicious, driven to damaging passions, multiple unions and lust for money and power. The Nodes can catch Venus into a treadmill of negative karma.

Chiron-Venus may have the gift of seeing beauty where others can not; finding value in what others dismiss as worthless. Chiron-Venus’ values are intensely personal, and are adhered to with great tenacity and can even assume philosophical or political dimensions – e.g. campaigning for women’s rights to being an enthusiastic supporter of the arts. With Chiron-Venus, we often meet people who seem already familiar to us, definitely as if we have known them in other lives. We find inspiration and we discover our next steps through intense and synchronous meetings with people who bring new ideas, rich interpersonal encounters, suggestions, insights or business contacts. Especially this aspect can bring artistic inspiration or personal growth. Chiron-Venus makes us very sensitive to disharmony in-between others – and we may become involved in others’ disputes – unconsciously, we feel responsible for bringing love and harmony into life. This may date from infancy when we tried to bring peace between warring parents, siblings or in-laws – or may have felt pressed to side with one parent against another. Later on, we may engage in futile struggles to resolve the irresolvable in relationships. Or we may stay in conflictful and wounding situations, hoping vainly they will get better and harming ourselves in the process. And with Chiron-Venus, our first intimate relationships may well be a baptism of fire, for we always accommodate others and do not make a stand for our own values, denying one’s self – a pattern with roots in infancy. But equally, Chiron/Venus can have the ability to open others’ capacity for relationships and touch them deeply. On even more dangerous ground, Chiron/Venus may enter into darker areas of relationships, enduring trial and suffering as a test (v. The Myth of Psyche). And  Chiron/Venus may be drawn to ‘beautiful people’ – images rather than real people: seduced by wealth, glamour, art, &c. May secretly enjoy provoking envy in others. May suffer illusory intoxication of being in love with love. One of the Chiron-Venus wounds is that they may at first seem pliable and self-effacing, and this causes problems when they want to grow in a relationship. (The Myth of Psyche and Aphrodite). And lastly, Chiron-Venus can indicate a wound of unrelatedness to instincts and physical passions.

Retrograde Venus means the person will have to give very special attention to the demands of Venus to have success in love and other Venus matters.

Unaspected Venus: Having an unaspected sub-personality means that sometimes you may come over over-powerfully with that energy to other people, and yet have no real idea of how powerfully you are coming across with those characteristics; you might feel you are being too weak – or vice versa.

But it also means that that energy-principle is unconnected to the rest of you. It is an unaspected sub-personality. You will find it difficult to assess. It could be the tail that wags the dog. It could take over your life. At other times, you will be unable to access and connect to its energy at all.

We need to recognise and understand our unaspected sub-personalities. This can be done through the method of role-play psychosynthesis. It is linked to the principle of ‘Individuation’ in the psychology of Asaglione.

The development of the Venus Archetype in our life:

Ideally, from a sense of comfort and security, the child begins to venture out and soak up the pleasures filtering through his/her awakening senses. The child must ideally see all his/her parts reflected though the parents’’ eyes, as if they are a mirror held up for approval and love.
The unelected parts are split off into the unconscious: thus, our sensual nature risks being wounded through non- acknowledgement. A child needs to be acknowledged as loveable. He/she wants to be held, and to feel good.

In the process of opening ourselves up to love, we make ourselves vulnerable: it is this vulnerability that is so viciously crushed and destroyed in this culture. The Lover archetype is the easiest to wound, the hardest to heal.

The child that has not had its sensual nature properly acknowledged by the parents will become ‘bound’ to them in a desperate attempt to become the apple of their eye. The child therefore tries to win the parents’ love through all sorts of measures: will stop at nothing (= Mama’s boy)

OR

the child becomes ‘less than’ by retreating into his/her private thoughts and becoming The Romantic Dreamer, who numbs out his/her body by retreating in order to escape the shaming wounds to their souls.

Wounded Lovers may use food to fill the void; another common substitute is having a pet.
